Our History
The Wellington County Historical Society was founded in 1928 through the initiative and efforts of the Women's Institutes in the county. The Society's purpose was to preserve Wellington County historical records and to collect and display artifacts.
Its collection grew rapidly and in 1954, the forerunner of the present Wellington County Museum and Archives was opened on Mill Street in Elora.
Now in its eighth decade of activity, the Society continues to support the work of the Museum and to pursue its broader mandate of fostering public awareness of the rich history and heritage of Wellington County.
Come join the Wellington County Historical Society.
