"BULL CUTTEN"

The Life and Times of Arthur W. Cutten ... As Told By Theatre Guelph

The two most successful businessmen in Chicago in the 1920's were Al Capone and Arthur Cutten.  Both made millions.  Both were reviled.  Capone was a gangster who took his profit from Prohibition.  Cutten, some say, caused the Stock Market Crash of 1929.

Arthur W. Cutten was born and buried in Guelph and maintained a second home here all his life.  But he lived in Chicago where he speculated in wheat and stocks.  He was the "Bull of Wall Street".  A tight-fisted financial operator, he used his millions to put gangsters behind bars, to build a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and to bless his birthplace with several philanthropies including the Cutten Club.  His funeral was the largest ever in Guelph.  His monument is the tallest in Woodlawn Cemetery.

"BULL CUTTEN" is an original play based on the incredible but true story of the man who made the cover of TIME magazine (1928) and whose autobiography was published by the SATURDAY EVENING POST (1932).  This new theatrical production by Theatre Guelph is as entertaining as the actual story of Cutten's life.  Look for music and dance from the period, and characters who crossed paths with the man - Elliott Ness, Stephen Leacock, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Frank Lloyd Wright.  BULL CUTTEN is a great theatrical adventure for the whole family.
