Summer 2012, Friday Morning Tea and Tales, Riverside Park Enabling Gardens

The popular tradition continues.

Every Friday morning this summer (except for August 31), the Guelph Guild of Storytellers and friends will tell at the Guelph Enabling Gardens.

The time is 10:30-11:30. Free, but donations are accepted. Some chairs provided, but bring your own if convenient.

The Enabling Gardens are at the south end of Riverside Park, behind Evergreen Seniors' Centre. All ages welcome, but stories are intended for thinking adults.

The Guelph Guild of Storytellers, founded in the early 90's, promotes the oral tradition of storytelling for thinking adults.

Workshop at GPL February 16, evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm

The Art of Storytelling: Sponsored by the Guelph Guild of Storytellers

Workshop description:

Storytelling is a wonderful, powerful tool to engage, entertain, comfort and teach. Come and cultivate your own your skill sets as we take a guided walk through the process of choosing, preparing and presenting tales.

The workshop will focus for inspiration on tales with an ancestry shaped in oral traditions of different cultures along with contemporary tales that lend themselves to shaping for the ear.

A handout will include an annotated reference list of practical resources.

Biography:

The workshop leader is Sya VanGeest, a member of the Guelph Storytellers’ Guild. She is an avid storyteller and regular volunteer in schools, senior homes and special events and a teacher of the craft of story making and telling to adults and children. 

She is an experienced educator with more than thirty years as a classroom teacher, consultant and teacher-librarian in high schools and elementary schools, a curriculum consultant and author. She continues to be active as a workshop leader, teacher of online courses and leader of provincial reading programs.

James Gordon joins Storytellers at Guelph Public Library

Join us for an evening of telling and listening in historic downtown Guelph, on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 7 to 8:30 pm.

James Gordon, Guelphs own songwriter and raconteur, will join the Guelph Guild of Storytellers in this special pre-Chrismas event. The evening will feature traditional and modern pieces.

It will be upstairs and fully accessible by elevator at the Main Branch of the Guelph Public Library, downtown, 100 Norfolk at Paisley.

Free. Any donations made at this function will be donated to a local charity.

New Location, Night and Time a Success

Many thanks to our new winter home, the Main Branch of the Guelph Public Library.

We will resume, 7pm, first Tuesday evening each month, in September.

Listeners wanted!

New and experienced tellers please contact us two weeks before the concert. New tellers are encouraged to start by listening to a concert, then join us for a rehearsal meeting.

Monthly Guild Meetings

We meet at members' homes spring through December a week before performance night, to discuss business and improve our skills. Yes, telling a good story takes work. We tell each story to the Guild at least once to make sure the details all work.
