Guelph Community Foundation Honours Spark of Brilliance with $2500 grant! Panarts
The Guelph Community Foundation awarded Spark of Brilliance a $2500. grant on Thursday October 19, 2006 to complete the mosaic art sculpture to be installed at the Guelph Enabling Garden in the summer of 2007. This art piece will be 11 feet by 7 feet in size and will consist of over 200 hand-cut, hand-crafted and hand-glazed mosaic tiles. The art piece will be comprised of 4 sections depicting the four elements of nature: earth, air, water and fire and will have a multi-cultural component showing various symbols of the cultures of the world around the border of the piece. A vast number of individuals and community groups have participated in the creation of this piece to be entitled "A Community Coming Together" ... including Spark of Brilliance Guelph, Orangeville and Burlington, the Guelph Glass Guild, The Flaherty Group Home, St. James High School (Students of Liberal Arts), many of Guelphs artists and artisans including, Donna Kwasnicki, Katrin Wolters, Barbara Guy-Long and others. Project Manager Goldie Sherman, well-known Guelph ceramics artist has provided steadfast leadership and immense creative inspiration for this piece. Construction Manager Chuck Jewell of CMHA will help complete the piece for installation in the summer of '07. Stay tuned for a schedule of 'construction workshops', and an announcement of the unveiling ceremonies.
