Are there graves available in Rockwood Cemetery? Do you have to have lived in Rockwood to be buried in the cemetery?
There are grave spaces available in Rockwood Cemetery, both for full size burials and for cremation interments. Although many of the families that use Rockwood Cemetery are from the Rockwood area, you do not have to live in the community to purchase interment rights (grave space) there.
Rockwood Cemetery, more than 175 years old, is located in the Township of Guelph Eramosa. It lies just south of the village of Rockwood on the site where the first resident of Rockwood, Joh Harris, established the first Church in the area for the Society of Friends (Quakers). Today, this charming country cemetery has both old and new memorials commemorating the families of the area. The Hanna Chapel, used for services and events, stands at the cemetery entrance, beside the highway. Today, although the cemetery is surrounded on three sides by newer homes and subdivisions, one historical neighbor still stands. The Rockwood Academy is located just to the north of the cemetery grounds, yet another reminder of the history of this lovely town on the Eramosa river.
This charming summer service is held in the Hanna Chapel at Rockwood Cemetery. Come, join us. Light refreshments will be served. Chairs are provided. This service is suitable for all ages.
