The Kiwanis Music Festival of Guelph began in 1981, organized and operated by the Kiwanis Club of Guelph and the Royal City Kiwanis Club. As of 2005 the two clubs amalgamated as the Kiwanis Club of Guelph and continue to operate the Festival, with increasing numbers of volunteers from the community. For two and a half weeks every February and March (February 18 - March 4, 2008) nearly 4,000 young people participate in the Festival. Over $15,000 in awards and scholarships are presented to 150 individuals and groups, as recommended by 12 to 14 professional adjudicators. The Festival Concert, held at the River Run Centre (March 19, 2008) is a showcase of some of the best performers in choirs, bands, string, brass and woodwinds, voice, harp, guitar, and piano.
