We are an organization of craftspeople that share common interests in the arts of weaving, spinning, and basketry.
We promote the crafts of spinning and weaving in our local communities of Guelph and Wellington County, and provide opportunities for learning and fellowship to our members.
The Guild is a member of the Ontario Handweavers and Spinners organization and is an affiliate member of the Ontario Crafts Council. The Guild celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1999.
Membership & Meetings
GHS members can:
Attend both monthly meetings - one focused on spinning, the other on weaving. Meetings include a program, social time and business portion.
Build skills by taking guild courses and weekend workshops taught by our members;
Borrow specialty library resources;
Participate in craft fairs, educational displays, and competitions;
Rent spinning and weaving equipment for a nominal fee; and
Take part in an informal monthly resource group for newer weavers.
The annual membership fee is $50, and is adjusted according to the date of joining the Guild. Reduced member fees are available for families and senior citizens.
Weavers meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, September through June.
Spinners meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month, September through June.
Meetings are normally held at Guelph Unitarian Fellowship, 122 Harris Street (corner of Harris and York Road)
