AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL BOARD MEMBERS:
As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the organization and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.
REQUIREMENTS: 1. Commitment to the work of the organization 2. Willingness to serve on committees 3. Attendance at Board meetings (approximately 6 throughout the year) 4. Attendance at meetings of assigned committees 5.Attendance at Annual General Meetings 6. Attendance at membership meetings 7. Support of special events 8. Support of, and participation in, fundraising events.
Term: The Directors of the GCDF shall be elected to hold office for a two-year term. A director may serve for a maximum of 3 consecutive terms (6 years).
General Board Duties: 1. Represent the GCDF in the community. 2. Participate in the development of the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival’s organizational plan and annual review. 3. Support and participate in evaluating the Artistic Director(s). 4. Approve the GCDF’s budget 5. With the approval of the Board of Directors, negotiate the terms of employment of any employee who may be hired. 6. Monitor all Board policies (when they have been drawn up). 7. Review the bylaws and policy manual and recommend bylaw changes to the membership. 8. Review the Board’s structure, approve changes, and prepare necessary bylaw amendments. 9. Approve, where appropriate, policy and other recommendations received from the Board, its head of committees and senior staff.
Evaluation: A Director’s performance is evaluated annually based on the performance of assigned Board requirements and duties by other members of the Board.
