Established in 1998, the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival is committed to providing Canadian contemporary dance artists with the opportunity to perform outside major metropolitan areas.
The GCDF annually presents a diverse blend of high calibre dance works that clearly push the boundaries of contemporary dance. The annual programme includes five separate series: the Mainstage A and B presentations profile the works of established choreographers and dancers, while Youth Moves focuses on the work of dancers still in elemenary and secondary school. Both the Site Specific and Noon-Time series provide new and established artists with the opportunity to perform in distinctive and unique venues throughout Guelph's downtown. Finally, Talkback Sessions will provide the audience with several diverse means of inspiration, participation and behind-the-scenes information.
Throughout the year, the Festival also encourages and expands local dance talent, and brings professional dance choreographers, performers and teachers from across Canada to Guelph. To further cultivate audience and artist alike, the Festival also gives youth the opportunity to perform, provides professional performances for youth, and brings dance directly into the school system.
The guelpharts.ca / wellingtonarts.ca site was founded by the Edward Johnson Music Foundation, Guelph Arts Council and Guelph Museums with the support of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration through the Volunteer @ction.online program.
