First Light Theatre logo First Light Theatre

First Light Theatre is a theatre company for young people designed to augment traditional education experiences by providing students with opportunities to learn, experience and perform, helping them to become confident communicators and community contributors.

The focus of First Light Theatre is to engage youth from a wide range of backgrounds by using the catalyst of Drama. Through acting workshops and classes, as well as the production of a full scale theatrical production students build perspective on a variety of topics and issues, while developing better communication skills and a greater commitment to community service.

First Light Theatre uses Drama to engage young people with an experience that will help build skills in leadership, communication, risk-taking, commitment as well as an awareness of the power of cooperative work. Working with students from primary school age to high school, First Light Theatre helps young people develop self-awareness and self-acceptance by combining the challenges of interpersonal relations, group commitment, and personal communications through the discipline of drama and by mounting a full theatrical production.

School programs

First Light Theatre runs classes in drama that help elementary school-age students learn creative self expression.

Community Classes

Classes and workshops that engage a wide range of youth in terms of social background, age and educational status.

Professional Play Production

Each year First Light Theatre stages a professional quality production which has relevance to young people and builds on their current school curriculum.

Our Mandate

First Light Theatre is a company whose mandate is to provide experiences in creative drama and theatre for young people. Dramatic productions include both scripted and original works, which focus on themes that are relevant to young performers and audiences. Training is provided in acting, character development, physical movement and vocal expression in a positive learning environment. First Light Theatre offers the opportunity to participate in workshops and classes for children, youth and adults as well as full-length productions.
