Call for Submissions - Visual Art, Painting, and Sculpture

Submitting your work to artcetera 2010 is an excellent opportunity to get your art and your name out in front of hundreds of people who like art, collect art, and support the visual arts.

What to submit: Our goal is to sell each and every piece that is auctioned. Even though, as a rule of thumb, larger pieces are less appealing than smaller ones and a good quality and attractive frame is often a determining factor in a buyer’s purchasing decision at these kinds of events, we encourage you to submit any artwork of your choosing. The more accurately you pinpoint bidders' tastes and budgets with your submission, the better the chances that it attracts attention and sells for a good price. You are encouraged to submit multiple works.

Price Range: Submit a good piece of art. Don't offer the worst, least significant, or most outdated piece you have lying around your studio. You want your submission to reflect positively on the quality and type of art that you are currently producing. We expect the average Silent Auction sale price to be $350 and the average Live Auction sale price to be over $1000.

Setting the Reserve Bid: Whether your art auctions silently or live, we recommend that you set the minimum acceptable reserve and selling price as low as possible, usually at 50% of the current retail price. When you set these dollar amounts too high, you scare bidders away. Remember that many people go to art auction fundraisers looking for bargains. Also remember that having nobody bid on your art reflects poorly on your career. If the jury thinks that the retail price is too high, you will be advised and asked to reduce the price; otherwise, the artwork may be returned.

Donation Amount: artcetera 2010 is the Elora Centre for the Arts’ biggest fundraising event of the year. We earn revenue from this event by each artist donating 50% of the sale price to the Centre. You will be paid 50% of the selling price and receive a charitable tax receipt for the difference between that amount and the suggested retail price. If you are so inclined, we would be pleased to accept the artwork as a 100% donation for which a charitable tax receipt for its full retail value will be issued to you. Whether you donate 50% or 100%, in either case we are most grateful to you for your gift.

Submissions: We ask that you submit by email a jpeg of the artwork, a description of the work, and a short bio of yourself as an artist (see application form for full details). Please contact the office by email or telephone if you wish to make a submission through a different method.

Selection Criteria: artcetera 2010 entries will be selected on an ongoing basis until March 27, 2010 by a jury of professional peers to ensure a high quality presentation of unique and original material. We strive to offer a balance of art forms. The jury will determine whether your submission is to be included in the Live or Silent Auction. All decisions of the jury are final.

Website Exposure: If your work is selected, we will be including an image and description of your artwork as well as your short bio and a link to your website on the artcetera 2010 page of the Centre’s website. We encourage you to submit early - the sooner your artwork is submitted, the more web exposure you and your artwork will receive.
